KM Vertical: 1000 meters of thrills
Mont Blanc Vertical Kilometer
Come test your limits on the 1,000-meter elevation gain of the Chamonix Vertical Kilometer!
This 3.8-kilometer race with 1,000 meters of elevation gain takes the form of a time trial. Please note that this is an alpine race! The final section of the course is exposed and features via ferrata-style elements (not recommended for those with a fear of heights): steps, cables, footholds, handrails… with a finish line at an altitude of 2,000 meters. Trekking poles are prohibited due to the technical nature of the final section.
A time record bonus will be awarded to the first man and first woman to complete the KM Vertical.

Open to juniors and above
Limited to 700 runners
First start at 4pm, then a start every 15 seconds.

Pick-up of KV race numbers is by appointment only, at the Espace EMC2 on Place du Mont-Blanc (Chamonix):
- Thursday June 25, 2026 from 9am to 9pm,
- Friday June 26, 2026 from 9am to 3pm.
Runners must present photo identification and their race bag, which must include all compulsory equipment, for equipment checks.
No bibs will be issued to runners without their compulsory equipment and identity papers. No race numbers will be issued after 3 p.m. on Friday.
Compulsory equipment
- Cell phone in working order.
- Minimum 0.50-liter water supply.
- Tumbler.
Recommended equipment
- Waterproof jacket (Gore-tex type).
The organizers would like to draw runners' attention to the fact that, depending on the systems and settings used, GPX tracks may give different results for race distances and gradients.
