More information on FFA categories

Each competitor must be in possession of personal accident insurance covering search and evacuation costs in France and Switzerland (90km). Such insurance can be taken out withAssur-Connect, for one, two, seven days or one year. Helicopter evacuations in Switzerland are subject to a fee, as are private helicopter evacuations in France. The choice of evacuation depends exclusively on the organization, which will always give priority to the safety of the runners. It is therefore up to each runner to check that his or her insurance covers these arrangements (the Mont Blanc Marathon organization is not authorized to provide information on your coverage).

Runners in possession of a valid FFA license or Pass J'aime courir who have chosen the Personal Accident option when purchasing their license or pass are automatically covered by the insurance of the Fédération Française d'Athlétisme.

Health Prevention Plan (PPS) and medical certificate

Already applicable to all FFA adult licensees since September 2023, this obligation now applies to all practitioners adults who wish to register for a race, who will have to complete the Health Prevention Course within three (3) months prior to the event concerned.

Minors, on the other hand, are still required to present a valid license or complete a health questionnaire.

These regulations apply to all persons wishing to register for the Marathon du Mont-Blanc 2026, whether of French or foreign nationality.

Insurance

Cancellation and refund insurance

Participants who so wish can take out "cancellation" insurance when registering for one of the Mont Blanc Marathon races, the conditions of which can be consulted via this link. This option must be taken out before registration is validated. This option allows the participant, under certain conditions established by the insurer, to be reimbursed for the registration fees paid.

If the rider has not taken out cancellation insurance at the time of registration, he/she will not be able to claim a refund from the organization.

Personal accident and damage insurance

Personal accident insurance

Each competitor must be in possession of personal accident insurance covering search and evacuation costs in France and Switzerland (90km). Helicopter evacuations in Switzerland are subject to a fee, as are evacuations in France by private helicopter. The choice of evacuation depends exclusively on the organization, which will always give priority to the safety of the runners.

Such insurance can be taken out with Assur-Connect by clicking here : Take out insurance

Our partner Assur Connect's insurance covers: medical repatriation on the basis of actual costs, medical expenses, helicopter evacuation costs and, for EU residents, death and disability benefits, as well as runners' personal liability. Personal liability

In accordance with current legislation, the organizer has taken out insurance covering the financial consequences of his civil liability, that of his employees and that of all participants in the Mont Blanc Marathon. As far as the civil liability of participants is concerned, this insurance is limited to accidents they may cause during the running of the Mont Blanc Marathon. This cover is in addition to, or in default of, any other insurance that participants may have. Proof of coverage may be provided to any participant on request.

Material damage

The organizer declines all responsibility in the event of damage (theft, breakage, loss, etc.) to participants' personal property, even if it is under the organizer's supervision. The participant, in his capacity as owner, expressly agrees to retain custody of his personal property during the event. This includes, in particular, any damage to the participant's personal belongings while they are left in the relief bags provided for runners by the organizer. Participants cannot claim against the organizer for any damage to their equipment. It is the responsibility of each participant to take out insurance to cover such risks.

More information

Payment of carbon offsetting for travel to Chamonix is compulsory, whatever your mode of transport (train, bus, car, plane...). You'll need to upload proof of address when you register, whatever your mode of transport. Group registration for the draw

Group pre-registration Group pre-registration is possible for the Mont-Blanc 90km, 42km or 23km, provided the group is formed for the same race.

  • Group registrations must be made for the same race (minimum 2 people and maximum 10 people per group).
  • Group registrations are only possible in the case of a random draw.
  • If a group consists of more than 10 people, it will not be entered in the draw.
  • If a runner has already registered individually, he/she cannot re-register as a group.

The only advantage of registering as a group is to have the same draw result for all group members, whether positive or negative. The probability of being drawn is the same for all runners, whether pre-registered individually or as a group.

  1. Each group member must fill in the "group code" information on the registration form.
  2. The code must be created by the 1st member of the group to register and then passed on to the other members of the group. It is then up to the group leader to know who makes up his or her group.

Be very careful when entering the group code, as in the event of a code error, group members will not be grouped together under the same group. We recommend that you do not use spaces or special characters in the group name, only capital letters and numbers. Example of a group code: MBM189 (this is an example, please do not use this code).

Documents to download on registration

Specific conditions ViaCham card:

  • In order to justify your train or bus journey, you must download your ViaCham card (valid on the date of the event) when you register. If your current subscription does not yet cover the event period, you can first download your current card, then add the new card (including the dates of the Mont Blanc Marathon) before May 4, 2026.

  • It must include the following information: Last name, first name and validity date.

  • To do this, open your ViaCham application and take two screenshots (like the example below):
    1. the " Pass " side (with your first and last name),
    2. the " Services " side (with the validity date).

  • Only one document can be uploaded when you register. To merge your two screenshots (JPG or PDF) into a single file, you can use the free online tool: https://tools.pdf24.org/fr/

    Carte ViaCham

  • Note: for Bib Chamonix Valley residents on foot or by bike only : downloading the ViaCham map is not compulsory. However, in the event of verification or doubt about your declaration, additional supporting documents may be requested.

Pre-race

Delivery of race numbers

Numbers will be handed over by appointment only, at Place du Mont-Blanc in Chamonix. The runner must choose a time slot via the email sent by the organization in the month preceding the race. No bibs will be issued outside this time slot. Appointments must be made in your runner's area before 5:00 p.m. on June 19.
Your appointment confirmation for the race number pick-up will appear on your pick-up card, sent by e-mail and also downloadable from your runner's area. your runner's area.

At the time of number collection, runners must bring their race bag with them, including all the equipment required for timing chip fitting and equipment checks. Numbers will not be issued to runners who do not present their race bag and the compulsory equipment for the race in which they are entered.

Each race number will be given to the runner in person, on presentation of the race number collection card sent by e-mail on June 21 and also downloadable from your runner's spaceA photo ID. Without this document, the race number will not be issued. Runners must know their race number before picking it up.

Specific details of race number collection for each race:

SAS departure allocation

For the 90km, 42km and 23km of Mont-Blanc, the starting SAS are set up according to the runner's UTMB index, approximately 1 month before the race. A runner with no UTMB index will be assigned to the last starting SAS. A runner whose UTMB index has changed between the time of the SAS assignment and race day will not be able to change SAS.

For the Mont-Blanc 10km, the start SASs will be assigned according to the time estimated by the runner to complete the race at the time of registration. The allocation of runners to the SAS will take place approximately one month before the date of the race.

No claims can be made to the organization regarding the allocation of SASs: by registering, runners agree to accept the SAS to which they will be allocated on race day. However, it will be possible to request a change to a higher SAS (e.g. from SAS 2 to SAS 3); this change will be made on site on race day.

Racing

Feed composition

The Mont Blanc Marathon races are run semi-autonomously. Semi-autonomy is defined as the ability to be self-sufficient between two refreshment points, in terms of food, clothing and safety equipment, enabling the runner to adapt to foreseeable or unforeseen problems (weather changes, physical problems, injuries, etc.).

It is up to runners to estimate their food and water requirements between two refreshment points. The quantity of water specified in the list of compulsory equipment is the minimum quantity required.

Ravitaillement

Composition of refreshment points

Two types of refreshment points are available:

During the race (slight differences depending on location or race):

  • Food: Bread, tomme, sausage, sweet cakes, Tucs, oranges, bananas, apricots, peaches/nectarines, watermelon (if very hot), MX3 energy bars, MX3 broth. In addition, for the 90km only: röstis at the Emosson refreshment station from 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m., pizzas at the Les Bois refreshment station from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., pasta at the Montenvers refreshment station from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Drinks: Still water, sparkling water with MX3 electrolytes, sparkling water with mint syrup and Coca-Cola, tea (if bad weather), MX3 energy drink.

On arrival:

  • Food: Hot dog diots (vegetarian variant possible), tomme, sweet cakes, oranges, apricots, nectarines/peaches, watermelon (if very hot).
  • Drinks : Still water, sparkling water with mint syrup and Coca-Cola, tea (if bad weather), beer (except for Mini Cross and The Young Race).
Runner assistance

Accompanying persons are not allowed in the refreshment area. Individual assistance of runners is only permitted 100 metres before or 100 metres after the refreshment posts. Outside these zones, it is forbidden, as is assistance during the race.

Any assistance provided outside the authorized zones will result in a time penalty being applied to the riders receiving the assistance.

It is strictly forbidden to start a race accompanied by a baby or child.

Time barriers

In the event of adverse weather conditions, and for safety reasons, the organization reserves the right to modify the time limits or to stop the event in progress. All decisions will be taken by the race jury.

Maximum race times and time limits take account of any delays (traffic jams, equipment checks, waiting at refreshment points, etc.).

Time limits are imperative and their application is non-negotiable. If a runner arrives after a time barrier has been applied, he or she is out of time and will be disqualified. The bottom right-hand corner of the runner's number will be cut off by the member of the organization in charge of the time barrier and the runner will be invited to return home by his own means or by the means set up by the organization.

If the runner wishes to continue the race despite his disqualification, his number will be recovered by the organization and the runner will no longer be considered a participant in the Mont Blanc Marathon; he will therefore no longer be under the responsibility of the organizer.

If you cross the finish line after the maximum race time, you will not be classified and therefore will not be considered as a finisher.

Anyone disrespecting the members of the organization responsible for enforcing the time limits will be banned from all Mont Blanc Marathon events.

In the case of a multi-wave start, time limits are applied from the start time of the last wave. The maximum race time is calculated according to each runner's start time.

In the event of withdrawal, the lower right-hand corner of the race number will be cut off by the member of the organization and the runner will be invited to return home by his own means or by means set up by the organization. The runner will then no longer be considered a participant in the Mont Blanc Marathon, and will no longer be under the responsibility of the organizer.

Security

Rescue and safety

First-aid posts are set up at several points along the course. These posts are linked by radio or telephone to Race HQ and Emergency HQ. A medical team will be present throughout the event, and will be able to intervene on the course by any appropriate means, including by helicopter if necessary.

It is the responsibility of any runner in difficulty or seriously injured to call for help:

  • By going to an aid station,
  • By calling PC Secours (number noted on runners' bibs),
  • By asking another runner or someone nearby to call for help.

It is the responsibility of each runner to provide assistance to any person in danger and to notify the emergency services. Any problem or accident must be reported immediately to the nearest control post.

Don't forget that hazards of all kinds, linked to the environment, weather conditions and the profile of the race, may mean that you have to wait longer than expected for help. Your safety will then depend on the quality of what you've packed in your bag.

A runner who calls on the services of a doctor or first-aider submits to their authority and agrees to accept their decisions. First-aid attendants and race doctors are empowered :

  • Remove from the race any competitor physically unable to continue.
  • Evacuate any runner they deem to be in danger by any means at their disposal.
  • Hospitalize any runners whose state of health so requires.

Expenses arising from the use of exceptional means of rescue or evacuation will be borne by the person rescued, who must also ensure his or her return from the place where he or she was evacuated. It is the rider's sole responsibility to set up and submit a claim to his personal insurance company within the allotted time.

If you are unable to contact the rescue centre, you can call the emergency services directly (especially if you are in an "emergency only" zone): 112 from France.

Race jury

An official race jury is appointed. The jury's power of decision is final, and it may be called upon to postpone or cancel one or more races, depending on weather conditions. The jury is made up of one member from each of the following organizations:

  • First-aid center
  • Chamoniarde
  • Chamonix Sports Club
  • CNEAS
  • Croix Blanche
  • Croix Rouge
  • Dokever
  • EMHM
  • Chamonix Town Hall
  • Vallorcine Town Hall
  • Coordinating doctor

As the president of the jury is the race director, it is he who will make the final decision following consultation with the jury members.

Modifying a race

In the event of excessively unfavorable weather conditions (large quantities of rain and snow at high altitudes, high risk of thunderstorms, etc.) and following the decision of the race jury, the organization has the right to modify start times, courses and race time limits. Runners will be notified of these changes by text and email. All information will also be posted on the event website and available at the information point located on the Place du Mont-Blanc during the event.

Postponement of an event in the event of force majeure

In the event of "force majeure": weather conditions (orange or red weather alert) preventing competitive running, natural disasters (earthquake, storm) or major political events (revolution, war, terrorist attacks) excluding pandemics, forcing the organizer to postpone the race, runners unable to take the start of the postponed race may request a refund of 60% of the registration fees actually received.
The following will not be reimbursed: donations to associations, cancellation insurance, subscriptions to RunMotion Coach, carbon offsetting and bank processing costs.

To benefit from this reimbursement, you must make a request on your registration profile before July 15, 2026. The refund will be made by crediting your credit card again within two months of your request.

Cancellation of an event in the event of force majeure

Before the start of the race

In the event of "force majeure": weather conditions (orange or red weather alert) preventing competitive running, natural disasters (earthquake, storm) or major political events (revolution, war, attacks) excluding pandemics, forcing the organizer to cancel the event, 60% of the registration fees actually paid will be refunded.
The following will not be refunded: donations to associations, cancellation insurance, subscriptions to RunMotion Coach, carbon offsetting and bank processing costs. Refunds will be made by crediting your credit card.

During the races

In the event of "force majeure", the organizer may stop the race. In this case, runners arriving at a refreshment or control point must follow the instructions given by the volunteers, and are obliged to respect them. No refund can be claimed.

In the case of a minor who has not signed a waiver, registration for the Mini-Cross implies parental consent to the use of the minor's images.

Image licensing

The Club des Sports de Chamonix organizes a sporting event called the "Marathon du Mont Blanc", which takes place on the last weekend of June each year. In application of the provisions of article L 333-1 of the French Sports Code, the Club des Sports de Chamonix is the exclusive owner of the right to exploit this event.

In this context, the Club des Sports de Chamonix is the sole owner of the image rights of each of the competitors taking part in the event, who have expressly waived their right to use these rights when registering.
Any communication about the event or use of images of the event must respect the name of the event, registered trademarks and the official agreement of the organization. Consequently, only the organization holds the right to use the riders' images, and may transfer this right.

Unless a license has been obtained from the Club des Sports de Chamonix, the capture and use of images is strictly forbidden. This means that the use of any racing image featuring riders is subject to a license issued solely by the Club des Sports de Chamonix.

If you wish to object to such publication for a legitimate reason, you must inform the organizer of this decision at club@chamonixsport.com, prior to the event and no later than thirty (30) days before the event, so that the appropriate measures can be taken.

Data is kept for a period of three (3) years from the end of the event. At the end of this retention period, the organizer will temporarily archive the data for the longest period of legal prescription applicable to this type of service. Access to them will then be strictly limited to use within a legal or judicial framework.
