In application of the law of March 2, 2022 aimed at democratizing sport in France, the French Athletics Federation has decided to replace the requirement for a medical certificate of no contraindication, with an educational and information course on the health risks associated with the practice of athletics, called the "(or "PPS").
Already applicable to all FFA adult licensees since September 2023, this obligation now applies to all practitioners adults who wish to register for a race, who will have to satisfy the Health Prevention Course within three (3) months prior to the event concerned.
On the other hand, the rules have not been changed for minors, who must still present a valid license or complete a health questionnaire and present a medical certificate.
These regulations apply to all persons wishing to register for the Marathon du Mont-Blanc 2025, whether of French or foreign nationality.

Group registration Group pre-registration is possible for the 90km, 42km or 23km Mont-Blanc. More info
Group pre-registration is possible for the 90km, 42km or 23km Mont-Blanc.
- Group registrations must be for the same race (minimum 2 people and maximum 10 people per group).
- Group registrations are only possible in the case of a random draw.
- If a group consists of more than 10 people, it will not be entered in the draw.
The only advantage of group registration is that all group members have the same draw result, whether positive or negative. The probability of being drawn is the same for all riders, whether pre-registered individually or as a group. Each group member must fill in the "group code" information on the registration form. The code must be created by the 1st member of the group to register and then passed on to the other members of the group. It is then up to the group leader to know who makes up his or her group.
Be very careful when entering the group code, as in the event of a code error, group members will not be grouped together under the same group. We recommend that you do not use spaces or special characters in the group name, only capital letters and numbers. Example of a group code: MBM189 (this is an example, please do not use this code).
Insurance
Participants who so wish can take out "cancellation" insurance when registering for one of the Mont Blanc Marathon races, the conditions of which can be consulted via this link. This option must be taken out before registration is validated. This option allows the participant, under certain conditions established by the insurer, to be reimbursed for the registration fees paid.
If the rider has not taken out cancellation insurance at the time of registration, he/she will not be able to claim a refund from the organization.
Personal accident insurance
Each competitor must be in possession of personal accident insurance covering search and evacuation costs in France and Switzerland (90km). Helicopter evacuations in Switzerland are subject to a fee, as are evacuations in France by private helicopter. The choice of evacuation depends exclusively on the organization, which will always give priority to the safety of the runners.
Such insurance can be taken out with Assur-Connect by clicking here : Take out insurance
Our partner Assur Connect's insurance covers: medical repatriation on the basis of actual costs, medical expenses, helicopter evacuation costs and, for EU residents, death and disability benefits, as well as runners' personal liability. For further information contact@assurconnect.com or +33 01 85 73 31 15.
Personal liability
In accordance with current legislation, the organizer has taken out insurance covering the financial consequences of his civil liability, that of his employees and that of all participants in the Mont Blanc Marathon. As far as the civil liability of participants is concerned, this insurance is limited to accidents they may cause during the running of the Mont Blanc Marathon. This cover is in addition to, or in default of, any other insurance that participants may have. Proof of insurance can be provided to any participant on request.
Material damage
The organizer declines all responsibility in the event of damage (theft, breakage, loss, etc.) to participants' personal property, even if it is under the organizer's supervision. The participant, in his capacity as owner, expressly agrees to retain custody of his personal property during the event. This includes, in particular, any damage to the participant's personal belongings while they are being left in the relief bags provided for runners by the organizer. Participants cannot claim against the organizer for any damage to their equipment. It is the responsibility of each participant to take out insurance to cover these risks.
Modification of registration

- From 90km to KM Vertical or 10km.
- From 42km to KM Vertical or 10km.

For any request for a change of race, only the runner concerned may expressly make this request in writing (email or post). Requests made by a person other than the runner will not be valid.
Only one request for a change of team-mate in the Star Duo is possible, provided that this request is made before April 30, 2025.
To do so, the rider wishing to be replaced must send an email to the organization notifying his wish and including all information relating to the person who will replace him. Only one change per team is possible. No refunds will be given; riders must make their own arrangements. Following this change, we cannot guarantee that we will be able to supply a t-shirt corresponding to the size requested by the replacement rider.
Norider may be replaced within a team, for any reason whatsoever, after April 30, 2025.
- Any exchange of bib numbers between runners will result in immediate disqualification of the team and a 10-year ban on re-registration for Mont Blanc Marathon races.
- All registrations are personal, firm and final, and cannot be reimbursed for any reason whatsoever (except for those who have taken out cancellation insurance at the time of registration).
- Any person transferring their race number to a third party will be held responsible in the event of an accident occurring or caused by the third party during the event. The organization declines all responsibility in the event of such an accident.
- Any person holding a number acquired in breach of the present regulations will automatically disqualify the pair without reimbursement.
- Any runner caught in the act of reselling a race number will have his or her registration and that of his or her partner cancelled without refund, and will be barred from registering for Mont Blanc Marathon races for 10 years.
Bib numbers must be fully legible during the race.
Pre-race
For the 90km, 42km and 23km of Mont-Blanc, the starting SAS are set up according to the runner's UTMB index, approximately 1 month before the race. A runner with no UTMB index will be assigned to the last SAS start. A runner whose UTMB index has changed between the time of the SAS assignment and race day will not be able to change SAS.
For the Mont-Blanc 10km, the start SASs will be assigned according to the time estimated by the runner to complete the race at the time of registration. The allocation of runners to the SAS will take place approximately one month before the date of the race.
No claims can be made to the organization regarding the allocation of SASs: by registering, runners agree to accept the SAS to which they will be allocated on race day.
Numbers will be handed over by appointment only at Place du Mont-Blanc in Chamonix. The runner must choose a time slot via the email sent by the organization in the month preceding the race. No race numbers will be issued outside this time slot.
At the time of race number collection, runners must bring their race bag with them, including all the equipment required for the timing chip and equipment check. Numbers will not be issued to runners who do not present their race bag and the compulsory equipment for the race in which they are entered.
Each race number is given to the runner in person, on presentation of photo identification. Without this document, the number will not be issued. Runners must know their race number before picking it up.

Waste sorting and composting garbage cans are provided in large numbers at each feed station and must be used. Any runner seen deliberately littering the course will be penalized.
Individual assistance is only permitted 100 metres before and 100 metres after the refreshment posts. Outside these zones, it is forbidden, as is assistance during the race.
Only runners wearing a visible race number and duly checked have access to the refreshment posts.
The race number must be visible throughout the entire race. It must be worn on the chest or stomach; it is forbidden to place the number on the back or on the rucksack. The use of a number belt is permitted.
For runners of the Kilomètre Vertical and 23km du Mont-Blanc, who make a request at the time of registration, the organizer offers to transport their belongings to the race finish in Planpraz. Only one bag per runner can be requested. This will be provided by the organizers at the time of number collection, provided that the runner has requested it at the time of registration.
The organizer declines all responsibility for any loss, theft or damage to participants' personal belongings in the bags (it is recommended not to place valuables in the bags). Participants' belongings will be transported to the finish only if they are in the bag provided by the organizer.
In the event of a runner abandoning the race, the bag containing his or her belongings will be returned to Race HQ located at the Club des Sports de Chamonix, 99 avenue de la Plage, 74400 Chamonix, within a minimum of one hour of the abandonment being reported to Race HQ.
No lightening bags are available for the other races of the Mont Blanc Marathon. It is the responsibility of each runner to make their own arrangements for transporting or storing their belongings.
In the event of adverse weather conditions, and for safety reasons, the organization reserves the right to modify the time limits or to stop the event in progress. All decisions will be taken by the race jury.
Maximum race times and time limits take account of any delays (traffic jams, equipment checks, waiting at refreshment points, etc.).
Time limits are imperative and their application is non-negotiable. If a runner arrives after a time barrier has been applied, he or she is out of time and will be disqualified. The bottom right-hand corner of the runner's number will be cut off by the member of the organization in charge of the time barrier and the runner will be invited to return home by his own means or by the means set up by the organization.
If the runner wishes to continue the race despite his disqualification, his number will be recovered by the organization and the runner will no longer be considered a participant in the Mont Blanc Marathon; he will therefore no longer be under the responsibility of the organizer.
If you cross the finish line after the maximum race time, you will not be classified and therefore will not be considered a finisher.
Anyone disrespecting the members of the organization responsible for enforcing the time limits will be banned from all Mont Blanc Marathon events.
In the case of a multi-wave start, time limits are applied from the start time of the last wave. The maximum race time is calculated according to each runner's start time.

If there is no member of the organization near the runner who is retiring, the latter must contact race HQ to report his retirement. The Race HQ number is noted on the competitor's bib.
In the event of withdrawal, the lower right-hand corner of the race number will be cut off by the member of the organization and the runner will be invited to return home by his own means or by means set up by the organization. The runner will then no longer be considered a participant in the Mont Blanc Marathon, and will no longer be under the responsibility of the organizer.
Any person disrespecting the members of the organization responsible for collecting withdrawals will be permanently banned from all Mont Blanc Marathon events.
For the Duo Etoilé, if one of the two runners in the duo wishes to withdraw, his or her team-mate must also withdraw. It will not be possible to continue the race alone.

Dogs and other domestic animals are strictly forbidden on sections of the course that cross the Aiguilles Rouges Nature Reserve.
Security
First-aid posts are set up at several points along the course. These posts are linked by radio or telephone to Race HQ and Emergency HQ. A medical team will be present throughout the event, and will be able to intervene on the course by any appropriate means, including by helicopter if necessary.
It is the responsibility of any runner in difficulty or seriously injured to call for help:
- By going to an aid station,
- By calling PC Secours (number noted on runners' bibs),
- By asking another runner or someone nearby to call for help.
It is the responsibility of each runner to provide assistance to any person in danger and to notify the emergency services. Any problem or accident must be reported immediately to the nearest control post.
Don't forget that hazards of all kinds, linked to the environment, weather conditions and the profile of the race, may mean that you have to wait longer than expected for help. Your safety will then depend on the quality of what you've packed in your bag.
A runner who calls on the services of a doctor or first-aider submits to their authority and agrees to accept their decisions. First-aid attendants and race doctors are empowered :
- Remove from the race any competitor physically unable to continue.
- Evacuate any runner they deem to be in danger by any means at their disposal.
- Hospitalize any runners whose state of health so requires.
Expenses arising from the use of exceptional means of rescue or evacuation will be borne by the person rescued, who must also ensure his or her return from the place where he or she was evacuated. It is the rider's sole responsibility to set up and submit a claim to his personal insurance company within the allotted time.
If you are unable to contact the rescue centre, you can call the emergency services directly (especially if you are in an "emergency only" zone): 112 from France.
An official race jury is appointed. The jury's power of decision is final, and it may be called upon to postpone or cancel one or more races, depending on weather conditions. The jury is made up of one member from each of the following organizations:
- First-aid center
- Chamoniarde
- Chamonix Sports Club
- CNEAS
- Croix Blanche
- Croix Rouge
- Dokever
- EMHM
- Chamonix Town Hall
- Vallorcine Town Hall
- Coordinating doctor
As the president of the jury is the race director, it is he who will make the final decision following consultation with the jury members.
In the event of excessively unfavorable weather conditions (large quantities of rain and snow at high altitudes, high risk of thunderstorms, etc.) and following the decision of the race jury, the organization has the right to modify start times, courses and race time limits. Runners will be notified of these changes by text and email. All information will also be posted on the event website and available at the information point located on the Place du Mont-Blanc during the event.
In the event of "force majeure": weather conditions (orange or red weather alert) preventing competitive running, natural disasters (earthquake, storm) or major political events (revolution, war, terrorist attacks) excluding pandemics, forcing the organizer to postpone the race, runners unable to take the start of the postponed race may request a refund of 60% of the registration fees actually received.
The following will not be reimbursed: donations to associations, cancellation insurance, subscriptions to RunMotion Coach, carbon offsetting and bank processing costs.
To benefit from this reimbursement, you must make a request on your registration profile before July 15, 2025. The refund will be made by crediting your credit card again within two months of your request.
